Hierarchy in Design
Within the first look to the painting, the trees in the left draws our attension. The trees differ from the main tone of the upper painting in terms of color, shape and placement. We can easily say the trees have a great visual weight and have a strong influence in painting thus, they are in a very high level of hierarchic order in this painting. Then, the start-like shapes in the sky are shaping most of the painting. in the middle of the sky, the continous wind orders the others the small starts around it, which makes the wind dominant in the sky. There is also color contrasts of yellow, blue and white there. With its bright yellow color, the star -mabye the moon- in the corner top-right have a big visual weight also. Since those three objects, respectively; trees, wind blow and bright star have a diagonal contunuation in the painting the hierarchical order of them leads our attension throught the painting. While going down of the painting we see another contrast of mountains -white,blue and black- which distinguishes the borders of the sky and the village. We see the sharp tower of the church in the village which might be a reflection of big trees. This relation ship with the higher level of hierarchical element made the church more noticable than the others and also carries it to the following hierarchical level.
